This past week(Oct 6) the Chapter received a letter from Craig Gehart, County Executive.
Dear Mr. Phillips,
Prince William County Government has received your request regarding a proclamation for Confederate Heritage and History. Members of the Board of County Supervirsors and staff receive many requests for proclamations each month. Although there is no specific criteria for an item to be placed for action on the Board's agenda, it is not possible to accommodate each request. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate your request.
A couple of things stand out in this letter. One, Mr. Gerhart, has not been a party to any discussions regarding a proclamation. He is not elected by the citizens of Prince William County, rather he is appointed by the BOS. Why he at this time has decided to contact us, we do not know.
HPA will not back down and will continue to do what is right. We will continue to ask the BOS to honor Confederate History and Heritage as they do other aspects of Prince William history.
