                      Press Release 10/17

For the last six weeks the Manassas Chapter of the Heritage Preservation Association (HPA), has repeatedly contacted the office of Prince William County Chairman Sean Connaughton in an attempt to arrange a meeting with him.  The reason we would like to meet with Mr. Connaugton is to let him know of the widespread public support for a Confederate Heritage and History Proclamation.

We do not understand why Mr. Connaughton will not meet with us.  HPA feels that the Chairman would not show the same disrespect for other Community Civic groups as he is showing us.  In fact, we feel Mr. Connaughton has taken the initiative to reach out to many groups within Prince William County, except those that are proud of our Confederate Heritage and History in Prince William County.  In this election season, does Mr. Connaugton really feel that he can alienate such an important part of his base support?

Our County's Confederate Heritage and History is important to the County's economic well being through tourism, and HPA feels that the County leadership should accord it the proper respect that it duly deserves. The County does not seem to mind exploiting local Confederate history in attempting to attract touristto the County, yet the current County leadership seems to think recognizing this history would be divisive.  However, they don't feel it is divisive to collect the tax dollars generated by this history.

The County issues proclamations for other groups to commemorate their contributions to the County. So why is the Chairman so opposed to do it for what is truly a most important part of our County history?

INSULTED AGAIN!!

Confederate Heritage stabbed in the back again by bigoted elected officials.

Our chapter will not stand for these attacks.

You can contact Sean Connaughton at 703 792-4640. Let him know how you feel about him insulting your heritage.

PRESS RELEASE

The Manassas Chapter of the Heritage Preservation Association strongly protests the bigotry and hatred that is promoted by some Prince William County Board of Supervisors. In attempting to have the Southern and Confederate Heritage of Prince William County honored in April, the chapter submitted a proclamation to the Board for approval. Unfornationaly, Chairman Sean Connaughton refused our request and would not allow the full board of Supervisors to vote on the proclamation.

The chapter does not understand how a County that seems to “treasure" its past, can completely ignore the very history that put Prince William County on the map and is responsible for generating a sizeable revenue for the County. The Manassas Chapter collected several hundred signatures from County residences though out the last year in support of the proclamation. Yet, Chairman Connaughton seems to want to ignore this segment of the population. The chapter attempted to meet with the chairman twice to discuss the proclamation and to provide him with our petition. The Chairman canceled both meetings without explanation. We find it very disturbing that the Chairman would play such games and we question the Chairman's integrity and ability to serve all those that live in Prince William County.

The Manassas Chapter will be taking a number of steps to let the citizens of Prince William County know how the Chairman treated us and those who honor Confederate Heritage and History.

Welcome to the Manassas Chapter of the HPA. While we are based in Manassas, we have members throughout the metro area. Our chapter is growing and is having an impact in saving Southern Heritage in the Northern Virginia area.

Please consider joining the HPA or making a donation to the chapter. Donations to the chapter will enable us to counter the anti-Southern press and elected officials in our area. With the ongoing attacks against Southern Heritage in Prince William County, we must be able to reach the general public by newspaper ads and other means.

Our mailing address is HPA- PO BOX 2247 Centreville VA. 20122.

Thank you for your support.
